Gluten-Free Beef Stroganoff

Gluten-free beef stroganoff is the kind of comfort food that makes an ordinary dinner feel special. It’s creamy, savory, and hearty. Plus, it brings together simple ingredients for a satisfying family meal. Ground beef, mushrooms, and onions create a flavorful base. Then, a creamy sauce brings everything together with gluten-free pasta.

I’ve been cooking gluten-free for years. Over time, I’ve learned that eating gluten-free doesn’t mean giving up the meals you love. Instead, a few simple swaps can make your favorite recipes work. This stroganoff is a great example. For this recipe, I use gluten-free flour and pasta. As a result, you can enjoy a classic comfort food without the gluten.

Ground beef also makes this recipe practical for a family dinner. It’s affordable and easy to cook. In addition, it pairs beautifully with the mushrooms and onions. I finely chop the mushrooms so they blend into the sauce. That way, they add flavor without overpowering the dish. This can be especially helpful when cooking for picky eaters.

The sauce gets its flavor from beef broth, Dijon mustard, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Meanwhile, the sour cream adds a smooth and creamy finish. Together, these ingredients create a rich sauce that coats every bite of pasta. Best of all, you don’t need a long list of ingredients to get plenty of flavor.

Everything comes together in one Dutch oven. Because of that, cleanup stays simple after dinner. While the pasta cooks, you can prepare the beef and vegetables. Next, the sauce comes together in the same pot. Finally, fold in the cooked pasta and let everything rest before serving.

This is the kind of dinner I love keeping in my recipe rotation. It’s comforting, filling, and family-friendly. It’s also easy enough for a busy weeknight. The ingredients are simple, and the preparation is straightforward. For an easy side, serve it with a simple vegetable or salad. Then, sit down and enjoy a warm, homemade meal with your family.

Gluten-Free Beef Stroganoff

Servings: 4 Servings
Author: Rose Thicket Farms

Ingredients

  • 2 cups gluten-free pasta uncooked
  • 2 tablespoons butter cubed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons salt divided
  • 2 tablespoons gluten-free flour
  • 8 ounces baby bella mushrooms finely chopped
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Cook the gluten-free pasta for 2 minutes less than the package directions. Drain, return to the pot, and toss with the butter. Cover to keep the pasta from drying out.
  • While the pasta cooks, heat a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the ground beef and 1 teaspoon of salt. Cook until browned, breaking the beef apart as it cooks. Drain the excess grease and set the beef aside.
  • Add the olive oil to the Dutch oven. Add the onion, mushrooms, remaining 1 teaspoon salt, and garlic powder. Cook for 5–10 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
  • Sprinkle in the gluten-free flour, then add the Dijon mustard, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Return the cooked ground beef to the Dutch oven and mix well.
  • Slowly pour in the beef broth, whisking continuously until incorporated. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the sour cream and mix until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  • Gently fold the cooked pasta into the beef and sauce. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.
  • Remove from the heat, cover, and let rest for about 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
