Watermelon Caprese Skewers

Every summer my family anticipates the arrival of fresh watermelon. We eagerly await the opportunity to cut into this summertime treat. This watermelon caprese skewer is a sweet and savory summer classic. The fruit paired with the creamy mozzerella, salty ham, and fresh basil is wonderful. The addition of the balsamic glaze adds a tangy punch that brings the whole dish together. It’s perfect for your next cookout.

Watermelon Caprese Skewers

Servings: 2 Dozen

Ingredients

  • 24 4 1/2 inch bamboo skewers

Skewers

  • 48 Watermelon balls
  • 8 slices Ham
  • 8 oz Fresh mozzarella ciliegine
  • 24 Fresh basil leaves

Balsamic Glaze

  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 pinch dried tarragon
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

Balsamic Glaze

  • Add balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, tarragon and salt to a saucepan. Bring to a boil and reduce to simmer.
  • Cook for about 20 minutes or until mixture has reduced to half. It should coat a spoon after being cooled.
  • Set aside and let it cool completely while preparing the rest of the ingredients.

Skewers

  • Drain the liquid from the mozzarella and set aside.
  • Prepare melon balls.
  • Roll the slices of ham and cut into thirds.
  • Wash and dry basil leaves.

Assembly

  • Skewer watermelon ball.
  • Fold a basil leaf into thirds and place on skewer.
  • Add the mozzarella.
  • Skewer the ham.
  • Finish the skewer with a watermelon ball.
  • Repeat the process until all the skewers have been constructed.
  • Arrange on tray.
  • Use a spoon to drizzle the balsamic glaze over the skewers.
  • Serve.
