I was so excited to see the snow this morning. I felt like a child on Christmas Day as I sprang out of bed to see the snow on the ground. I couldn’t wait to see what the landscape looked like and how much snow had actually fallen.
I can remember a few times throughout my life having the opportunity to experience snow. I remember a spring break trip in college to visit a friend who lived up north, and waking up to a beautiful blanket of snow. We used the snowblower to clear the driveway, which wasn’t necessary at all. However, she let us have our fun. I can remember a snowfall at our home the year my dad came to live with us. My dad and I got to walk around the yard and see all the plants covered with snow. It was an opportunity for us to visit and talk about life as we navigated this new chapter.
This snow day will be memorable because I got to experience it with my son. I had the opportunity to see the world through his eyes on this beautiful day. We made snow angels, a snowman, and even had a snowball fight. There was lots of laughter, rosy cheeks, and joy in our hearts.
After the fun died down, I took a walk around the yard to see how the snow changed the landscape. One of my favorite things about the Big Thicket is the dramatic changes in the scenery. This low pasture is where the wildflowers bloom and our bee hive busily hums away. This area is usually bustling with life, but today it is quiet and still.
I love how the snow makes everything look fresh and new. It’s like viewing the world through the eyes of a child. It reminds me that I need to take the time to be quiet and reflect. This helps me look at the world from a new perspective, find the beauty in daily tasks, and dream about the future.
