How to Set a Table

In my social media posts, you’ll find that I often post pictures of my table. I have found that setting the table before I leave the house, helps me to be prepared at dinner time. It helps my guests, even if it’s only my family, feel like I put in the extra effort for them. The question is how do you set a table?

Here are some tips and trick to remember how to set the table.

  • The dinner plate goes in the center of the place setting.
  • The napkin can go on top of the plate or on the left side of the dinner plate.
  • The word left has four letters so does fork. Place the fork on the left side of the plate on top of the napkin if placing it on the table.
  • The word right has five letters so does knife and spoon. Place the knife on the right side of the plate with the blade towards the plate. The spoon goes to the right of the knife.
  • Make the letter b with your left hand. This is the side of the plate for the bread plate.
  • Make the letter d with your right hand. This is the side of the plate for the drink above the knife.

The first time that I ever learned how to properly set the table was in my high school speech class with Mrs. Perrin.
